Make a Joyful Noise (September 2 – 29)
A visual arts show in celebration of life and healing. Artists from the Tampa Bay area will present ethereal and spiritual art, in the high key value range. The show commemorates Mary Ann Scialdo, the Center’s artistic director, who passed away from cancer this summer, and all whose lives have been touched by illness. As a symbol of hope, the Center will be decorated with strings of origami cranes.
An Artist’s Reception will be held on September 10 from 6 to 9 pm at the Carrollwood Cultural Center.

Written by Gil Perlroth, directed by Daniel Harris, and starring Cheryl Moore, Robert Hines, Glenn Suyker, and Nancy Wright, this satirical musical revue of life in retirement is a sure-fire hit guaranteed to leave you laughing and singing along whether you are already retired or just dreaming about it.

| Conductor and pianist Donald Pippin (Oliver!, A Chorus Line, Mane, Walt Disney’s Snow White) with stage and television star, Ron Raines (Guiding Light, Chicago, Showboat) will take the main stage at the Carrollwood Cultural Center in the concert of the year!

Donald Pippin (Conductor, pianist)
Having served for 14 years as Musical Director of New York’s famed Radio City Music Hall, Donald Pippin is one of Broadway’s most honored conductors. He is the recipient of the Tony Award for Oliver!, the Emmy Award for Broadway Sings Jule Styne, the Drama Desk Award for “consistently outstanding musical direction and commitment to the theatre” and a gold record award for original cast album of A Chorus Line.
Ron Raines (Star of stage and television)
For 15 years, Ron Raines headed the cast of CBS-TV’s longest running daytime serious Guiding Light.
For his work as “Alan Spaulding”, Mr. Raines was nominated for 2003, 2004 and 2006 Emmy Awards as Outstanding Lead Actor and was nominated three times for the SOAP OPERA DIGEST Award as “Outstanding Villain.”
Mr. Raines is well known to theatre audiences in New York and around the country as one of America’s leading musical theatre performers most recently starring on Broadway as Billy Flynn in Chicago. He also starred on Broadway as Gaylord Ravenal in the 1983 revival of Jerome Kern’s Showboat costarring Donald O’Connor. He originated the role of Teddy Roosevelt’s ambitious son-in-law Nick Longworth in the short-lived Broadway musical Teddy and Alice starring Len Cariou and went on to originate the dual role of Jupiter/Amphytrion in the Off-Broadway musical hit Olympus on my Mind. |

JAZZ WITH JIM, “Jazz from the Movies”
Featuring noted Tampa jazz musician Jim Burge and the Jazz Directions, with Jim Burge on saxophone, Ron Delp on keyboard, Jeff Henson on percussion and Mike Ruvin on double bass.
The band will be playing selections from Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Gigi, South Pacific, and much more.
$7 for members, $10 for nonmembers. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
Jim Burge received the B.M.E. and M.A. in performance from the University of Denver. After teaching in Denver area schools, he moved to Las Vegas to perform in show bands, backing many of the stars of the ‘60s and ’70s. He moved to Orlando for the opening of Walt Disney World where he was a staff musician and assistant conductor of the Walt Disney World Band. While in Orlando, Mr. Burge taught at Seminole and Valencia Community Colleges and performed with the Florida Symphony Orchestra. In 1976, he joined the faculty of Hillsborough Community College and remained there until retiring in 2005. He became the Director of Music at HCC, where he conducted the Wind Ensemble and the Jazz Band among other responsibilities. He is a founding member of the Bay Area Saxophone Quartet and performs in various jazz and show bands around the Tampa Bay area. |

Franz Josef Mantini, pianist and graduate of the University of South Florida, studied under the tutelage of the late USF distinguished artist-in residence Jacques Abram. Mr. Mantini maintains an active schedule of both solo and chamber music. He has performed Concertos by Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, and MacDowell and chamber music with the Lafayette String Quartet and principal members of The Florida Orchestra, the San Diego Symphony, and the Houston Symphony.
Awards include winner of the USF Concerto Competition and a prize winner in the 1990 Florida West Coast Chopin Competition. He was awarded Jury Discretionary Prize and Best Performance of a Classical Era Work at the 4th and 5th International Piano Competitions for Outstanding Amateurs, respectively, presented by the Van Cliburn Foundation.
Mr. Mantini is one of sixty participants selected from around the globe to participate in the gold class of the 2010 International Piano Competition in Berlin, Germany.
Mr. Mantini earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and master’s degree in engineering management and has applied his training working at a variety of electronics companies in the Tampa Bay area. Mr. Mantini resides in Tampa with his wife Julie, and sons Gabriel and Gianni |

| A food raiser to support Caspers Cupboard the Humane Society of Tampa Bay food bank.
We are all familiar with the amazing job the team at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay does to save abused, abandoned & neglected pets. In 2008 the amazing recovery of one animal, Casper, was the impetus for Casper’s Cupboard the HSTB Food Bank. Brought in near death, Casper had been starved & wasn’t expected to live. However, the love & kindness provided by the team of professionals at HSTB gave him a second chance. Now other animals have an
opportunity for a second chance too. Casper’s Cupboard has helped hundreds of families keep their pets. No one wants to surrender their pet because they can't afford to feed them. Casper's Cupboard provides free pet food to families who are experiencing financial hardship. It’s such an amazing story but it is only one of hundreds of miracles performed at HSTB every year.
You’re probably wondering how you can help. During our event GFWC New Tampa Juniors & Juniorettes will be collecting pet food. In addition, Texas Roadhouse will give 10% of every sale of food and drink to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay.

| The Foreigner tells the story of Englishman Charlie Baker who is not having a good year. Not only is his wife dying, but she has admitted on her death bed that she finds him extremely boring, which has led to her many infidelities, which has led to Charlie developing a nervous disorder. Conversation terrifies him. In hopes to give him a break from his complicated life, Charlie’s friend and demolitions expert Froggy LaSeur takes him to a small country bed and breakfast in Georgia where he tells his old friend, the owner Betty Meeks, that Charlie is a foreigner from another land and that he speaks and understands no English, then leaves him there. What follows only complicates Charlie’s life, as the guests speak freely around him, thinking he does not understand: “How the unwed preacher’s wife, Catherine is pregnant”, “How the preacher himself, David, is in leagues with the treacherous Owen Musser, and not all he seems to be”. But somewhere along the way, Charlie finds for himself what he’s longed for for an eternity: an identity, all culminating in the climax of the show.
