Pine Hill Haints - Taking inspiration from roots music and Southern tales of the supernatural, the Pine Hill Haints play a self-described style of "Alabama ghost country" that touches upon honky tonk, rockabilly, folk, and bluegrass. As a child, Jamie Barrier (vocals, guitar) often joined his grandfather in attending local hootenannies, where he was exposed to the musical traditions of his native Alabama. Later, Barrier honed his own voice by singing in a graveyard -- the Pine Hill Cemetery. Barrier formed the Pine Hill Haints in 1998 piecing together a revolving lineup that ultimately solidified around core members Matt Bakula (washtub bass, banjo), Ben Rhyne (snare drum), and Jamie's wife, Katie Barrier (washboard, mandolin). The band issued its earliest recordings (three full-lengths, a 12" vinyl, and several split albums) on Barrier's own Arkam Records before attracting attention from K Records' founder Calvin Johnson, who recorded the band's next release -- You Bury Your Hate in a Shallow Grave. The disc was released on Portland's LELP label, as was the band's follow-up EP, Pine Hill Haints Meet Clampitt, Gaddis & Buck. While the Pine Hill Haints retreated back to Arkam for 2005's Those Who Wander, they were subsequently picked up by K Records and released Ghost Dance, an eclectic album of 20 lo-fi songs, in November 2007.

A and R Productions to produce three live shows starring Noel Paul Stookey of Peter, Paul and Mary. The 18th will be at the Lakeside Inn the opening night of the 13th annual Mount Dora Music Festival http://www.mountdoramusicfest.com the 19th at the Palladium in St Pete http://www.mypalladium.org and the 20th at Glenridge Performing Arts Center http://www.the glenridge.com in Sarasota, more details to follow. This will be booked as "Curtain Call...a concert and conversation with" Noel Paul Stookey of Peter, Paul and Mary as he will perform as well as interact with the audience.

After the shows we will have the pleasure of a live performance at Lakeside Inn by UCF Jazz and classical guitarist Ben Tiptonford and at the Palladium show by Gale Trippsmith while Noel holds a meet and greet with those audience members who wish to stick around. In Sarasota our very good friend Leigh Humes along with her husband Steve will be performing during that meet and greet. We are working toward a series of shows so please keep an eye out as we open a very exciting chapter in live production and entertainment.

Venue Ensemble Theatre (VET) will hold auditions for FIVE NICKELS by Jack Neary on Sunday February 21st and Tuesday, February 23rd at 7pm at Venue Theatre, 9125 US 19 N, Pinellas Park, FL.

“Five Nickels” is a full evening of one-act plays. Casting up to 4 Men (40-60s), 4 Women (40-60s), 3 Men (20-30s), and 3 Women (20-30s). Some roles may be double-cast.

Production will run April 9 – 25, 2010.

Also in need of production assistance for stage manager, backstage, lights and sound.

THE CARROLLWOOD CULTURAL CENTER AND THE FLORIDA ORCHESTRA GUILD/TAMPA, INC TO PRESENT: MUSIC NOTES – A LECTURE/DEMONSTRATION SERIES

The Carrollwood Cultural Center and the Florida Orchestra Guild/Tampa, Inc presents Music Notes, a series of lectures/demonstrations highlighting the Florida Orchestra’s Master Works Repertoire 2009-2010.

On Tuesday, January 12 at 10 am, the lecture/demonstration will explore the work of Tchaikovsky.

Future lectures will highlight the works of Gershwin (February 23) and Dvorak (April 13). Discussions and musical demonstrations will be led by special guests, including Mary Ann Scialdo, Artistic Director of the Carrollwood Cultural Center and a Steinway artist.

Their attempts to rekindle an ‘almost’ romance begun nearly 30 years ago are constantly interrupted by a well-meaning hostess and an array of zany party-goers. Veteran actors Midge Mamatas and Michael DuMouchel portray the entire cast of intruding party guests. Mary Kay Cyrus and Frank Robertson (recently retired WTVT-CH13 news anchor) complete the cast as the couple searching for love and understanding in later life. The production is directed by Kathy Richter.

CASA (Community Action Stops Abuse, www.casa-stpete.org) is the designated benefit organization for this production. Venue Ensemble Theatre donates a portion of the proceeds from every ticket sold to the benefit organization.

THE CARROLLWOOD CULTURAL CENTER AND THE FLORIDA ORCHESTRA GUILD/TAMPA, INC TO PRESENT: MUSIC NOTES – A LECTURE/DEMONSTRATION SERIES

The Carrollwood Cultural Center and the Florida Orchestra Guild/Tampa, Inc presents Music Notes, a series of lectures/demonstrations highlighting the Florida Orchestra’s Master Works Repertoire 2009-2010.

On Tuesday, January 12 at 10 am, the lecture/demonstration will explore the work of Tchaikovsky.

Future lectures will highlight the works of Gershwin (February 23) and Dvorak (April 13). Discussions and musical demonstrations will be led by special guests, including Mary Ann Scialdo, Artistic Director of the Carrollwood Cultural Center and a Steinway artist.

The City of Dunedin will be holding the Ninth Annual Touch A Truck on Saturday, April 24, 2010 from 10 AM-2 PM at Highlander Park, 1920 Pinehurst Road, Dunedin, FL (corner of Pinehurst Road and Michigan Boulevard). This is a free event for all ages that has attracted over 7,500 visitors each year with activities such as: petting zoo, pony rides, moonwalks, face painting and demonstrations on site. There will be giveaways benefitting the Dunedin For Youth Scholarship Fund during the event. There will be entertainment during event hours, DJ and food and drink concessions available. This year, we are expecting attendance to exceed 10,000 (ages range from infants to senior citizens). This event showcases all types of vehicles including monster trucks, fire engines, cars, truck, heavy-duty construction equipment, military vehicles, helicopters, motorcycles, emergency vehicles, buses, entertainment and much, much more. Last year, we had 152 vehicles attend the event. We will be showcasing over 150 vehicles from all over the State of Florida and outside the State this year.
